These are the shaping discs Micah Cryder, of Yeti Pipes created for his own personal use. These discs are precise, durable, and able to be honed on your own personal shaping arbor for maximum precision. The pre-formed discs have been given an extremely versatile profile for most shaping applications, while retaining enough extra pad to allow for additional adjustments and honing for years to come. The un-shaped discs (squared discs) are a full 1/4″ pad that has been formed to flat dimensions on the face and edge, allowing you to establish any profile you like.
To apply sandpaper to these discs, cut out the pattern, generously coat the back of the paper with 3M Super 77 spray adhesive, allowing the 3M Super 77 to tack up for ~5 minutes, then firmly press the disc to the paper. To clean the discs, remove the paper, and scrub remaining adhesive residue with mineral spirits before recoating the disc (as seen in video link below).
We recommend 6″ PSA sanding discs for these profiled discs. The paper template PDFs can simply be downloaded, printed, cut out and glued to the PSA discs’s peel and stick film, allowing you to cut out the paper with scissors. There are two paper profiles provided, one is simpler to cut out, but can be more prone to lifting and catching edges. The spiral profile is better for avoiding those issues, and both cut patterns conform to the curved surface of a french disc very well. Just make sure you apply enough 3M Super 77, and allow it to thoroughly tack up before pressing the paper to the rubber pad!
Laser cut paper will be offered at a later date.
